Why you should buy SR:Scale: You can play with a 2 system galaxy for a quick and brutal fight, or a 9000+ system galaxy for a epic game.Customisability: Most ships you're going to be using will be designed by yourself. The ship design system is good. you're not just swapping out weapons on hardpoints, you're designing ships from scratch. You place subsystems, including life support, crew quarters, bridge, power generator, engines, etc on a grid to your liking. Where you place a subsystem matters. Got a big gun at the front? It'll be taking hits first.There's a wide range of weapons and utility subsystems to research too. Different weapons are good at different things. Raw DPS doesn't always win battles.Depth: Every planet has its own economy. It's not super deep on a single planet scale, but it's there, and when you consider how many planets there are... You can exploit weaknesses to your advantage. Kill farm planets to starve enemies population.. I'm sure there's something jolly about this, yet I just don't understand what's going on. I may have 200 planets, but ♥♥♥♥ if I know what they're up to, or how to wage war, or how to even find the jolly unfriendly alien races in that big old 3D space thing.. if you liked SINS of a SOLAR EMPIRE, but thought it was small and not very deep... then you will love this game. a game where you can custom design your ships like in EVE Online. and change them on the fly if you realize that your enemy is stronger in an area than you are. for 20 bucks it is a game more complex than CIV V, EVE, and SINS, plus the feel of the old game IMPOSSIBLE CREATURES when designing on the fly all into one game. oh the game can have up to 6000 suns with 6 planets each... yeah... and you can build ships bigger than solar systems.the MOD Galactic Armory is a must have after a few weeks of playing. if you have an issue getting it to launch after install go get a OpenGL installer.http://connect.creativelabs.com/developer/Wiki/OpenAL%20Installer%20for%20Windows.aspx or:http://opengl.en.softonic.com/and it is possible that you need this:http://openal.en.softonic.com/this fixes it right up.. Like the civilization games if they were massize 3D space RTS with no size limits or unit caps. This game delivers a true 3D universe (with the option to flatten it to a 2D pane if that's the kind of map you want) with real time flight between stars and clusters. Sins of a Solar Empire meets Sid Meier's Civilization with extras that both games lack like 3D spaceflight along individually determined paths, real time civil management and custom unit construction.Really a lovely game, proud to have it in my library. A recommended collectors item to buy on sale or even off if you have the spare cash and would appreciate sitting down to play something like this singleplayer sometime.Unfortunately multiplayer is fairly dead and with Star Ruler 2 available for purchase now likely to stay that way. Still a very nice game for even just a few 100 hours of singleplayer. Star Ruler 2 going to be even better I hope and with people online.This is the sort of thing I think of when I think of a honestly priced classic high quality PC video game.A shame it hasn't been much more popular. Hopefully that would not ruin it as it seems to have much of the industry.
